Koalas sleep for 20 hours a day

DID YOU KNOW // Koalas sleep for 20 hours a day? These cuddly Australian creatures need more sleep than most animals because the 200-500 grams of eucalyptus leaves they munch on each day contain toxins, are very low in nutrition and high in fibrous matter so they take a large amount of energy to digest. Have you seen a Koala before? They look super cuddly and we’ve been lucky enough to cuddle one!

Koalas are at risk of going extinct in our lifetime. They need their habitat protected so we need to stop deforesting (taking away the trees) and building where they live. This summer a lot of them died in the bushfires that were worse due to climate change. Lots of people look after our koalas and have been busy rescuing them – how about writing a thank you letter to a wildlife carer and sending that?
