Phytoplankton produce more oxygen than all plant life on earth

💧ENVIRONMENT FACT💧 Did you know that 70% of all our oxygen comes from the ocean – mostly from a little thing called phytoplankton! Phytoplankton are tiny, photosynthetic organisms. This means they can manufacture their own food using energy from sunlight, producing oxygen as a by-product. They are often called tiny plants because of their ability to photosynthesize, but many species of phytoplankton are more closely related to protists and bacteria (not plants).
Phytoplankton produce more oxygen than all plant life on earth and we need them for our atmosphere. Scientists are concerned that they may be greatly impacted by climate change.
