There are never many people that look like me on TV. Why is that?
It’s important to talk to your kids about social justice issues within a context – it is much easier to relate to and you’ve got an example right there. A common one might be if you have white children and they’re watching something on the television that doesn’t have much diversity; have a chat about the show. Do they think the people are representative of those around them in life or in the country? Do they have any ideas why maybe everyone in the show is white? How might it make other kids feel? Why is it important to include everyone?
