✨SKWOODLE WOMAN✨ Meet Ntozake Shange, an American playwright and poet. As a self-proclaimed Black feminist, Ntozake addressed issues relating to race and Black power in much of her work. She is most famous for her play For Colored Girls, a unique blend of poetry, music, dance and drama called a “choreopoem”.
For Colored Girls describes the racism, sexism and violence experienced by Black women. It uses female dancers to act out poems about times with their classmates, lovers, and men who hurt them.
The women survive abuse and disappointment and come to recognize in each other the promise of a better future; one where this doesn’t have to happen. Have you heard of the #metoo movement? The play has been influential to #MeToo architect Tarana Burke.
